Brix

Brix Wine & Tapas is located at 964 Airport Road in Huntsville. It's a middle upscale restaurnt with a cozy and friendly atmosphere. The waitstaff was attentive and made us feel at home. I was with a group so we had an opportunity to try several diffenent dishes especially with the selection tapas offerings. I had the Shrimp Bisque, House Salad and Diver Sea Scallops (tapas portion). The large size shrimp in the bisque were cooked perfectly! What I was missing was the creamy finish I love with a bisque. The liquid was flat and watery. The salad was a typical house salad of mixed greens and a very light vinegrette. My Diver Scallops were sweet and cooked to perfection. My only complaint was that someone had a liberal hand with the salt shaker. It was so salty that I almost felt I couldn't eat them. They were served with polenta and hericot vert.
Side Bar Rant: Is there not another vegetable that chef's can fix!! I mean I love green beans but it is served with EVERYTHING!! I would love to see maybe some roasted root veggies or something.
I sampled Shrimp and Grits that was good but not out of the park. Again, someone had the salt shaker. The spinach dip was also good but the pita triangles were a little crispy. People enjoyed the Filet and Chicken dishes all served with either polenta or mashed potatoes with hericot vert. I would recommend this restaurant because it is good food at a fair price. It's a great local place and we all need to support our local businesses!

GrandMother's House

What can I say? I love good country cooking and GrandMother's House just went to the top of my list. It's located in Owens Crosss Roads in a little house that any Grandmother could call home. It's off the beaten path but easy to find. We were greeted by a kind, older gentleman and were sat in the front dining room. Our lovely waitress was welcoming and just what you would expect. Service here is nothing but down home friendly.  I had Country Fried Steak with Speckeled Butter Beans, Creamed Potatoes and Fried Okra. I couldn't smack my momma so I smacked my husband! The steak had a perfect scald on it and the creamed potatoes reminded me of my grandmother's cooking. The okra was breaded perfectly and the beans were delicious. Hubby had Chicken n' Dupplins with Fried Okra, Lima Beans and Cucumber Salad. He was in heaven. We hardly spoke during our meal except to tell each other how good the food was. I can't wait to go back!! You have to try this restaurant.  G

Walton's Southern Table

This new restaurant in the Former Ruby Tuesday at 4901 Whitesburg Drive is a down home cooking kind of place. The decor is cheery and the friendly staff makes it a joy. Highlights are the fried okra and fried chicken that both have a magnificent scald on them. I also had the broccoli salad, divine hashbrown casserole and spinach. It was delicious however I would skip the spinach. Not much flavor and seems thawed from frozen. Hubby loved the chicken and massages potatoes. We will for sure be regulars and recommend a trip there for an affordable and delicious southern dinner!

Supper Hero's

This is a great little place off Winchester Road but still in the city limits. It is a family place with a super hero theme. Comic books, action figures and movies on the flat screen entertain while waiting for your grub. The menu offers salads, sandwiches, burgers  & daily specials. We started with fried green tomatoes and a medley of deviled eggs. The tomatoes were awesome and came with a horseradish and a spicy sweet dipping sauce. The eggs were very good. You don't usually have eggs as an appetizer option! I had the Fungus Among Us burger which was delicious and Hubby with Mama had the Meatloaf wrapped in bacon. The flavor was different but great. I can't wait to go back! They have a Facebook page. I recommend checking it out!
