City Cafe Diner *

City Cafe Diner is located on Drake Avenue next to Cracker Barrel and is open 24/7. Negative Nancy Alert!!! I have three words to describe the dishes we tried: Pre Packaged, Preservatives and Chaos. The decor is nice but that's about where the compliments stop. The waiters/waitresses were confused and had a hard time answering questions for us or the people around us. We tried a diner staple the meatloaf with gravy and mashed potatoes and also the mediterranean tour.
Meatloaf: It was a pressed flat patty of meat like product covered with a pre-fab brown gravy and what could be the worst instant potatoes I have ever tasted. This dish was a fail on all points. It was also served with rice and vegetables.
Mediterranean Tour: Moussaka, Spinich Pie and Lasagna are three of our favorite things but each was mediocre. The moussaka was okay but missed that distinctive flavor punch. The lasagna was okay. It didn't knock our socks off but was edible. The spiniach pie was good. The phillo was tough and soggy but the inside stuffing was flavorful with hints of dill and lemon.
They bring a huge loaf of bread to the table along with a complimentary appetizer. It was hummus and tzatziki. we eat ALOT of both and I have to say it was super yucky. The plates have an enormous amount of food on them. I left feeling bad about all the waste of food.
We got to sit next to the dessert area and I watched as they opened pre packaged danish and re-wrapped them in celephane before placing in a basket for purchase.
NOT impressed. If you goal is to eat a huge amount of food and you don't really care about the quality or flavor then this is the place for you. That being said, we did not try any sandwiches or breakfast items.

GrandMother's House

What can I say? I love good country cooking and GrandMother's House just went to the top of my list. It's located in Owens Crosss Roads in a little house that any Grandmother could call home. It's off the beaten path but easy to find. We were greeted by a kind, older gentleman and were sat in the front dining room. Our lovely waitress was welcoming and just what you would expect. Service here is nothing but down home friendly.  I had Country Fried Steak with Speckeled Butter Beans, Creamed Potatoes and Fried Okra. I couldn't smack my momma so I smacked my husband! The steak had a perfect scald on it and the creamed potatoes reminded me of my grandmother's cooking. The okra was breaded perfectly and the beans were delicious. Hubby had Chicken n' Dupplins with Fried Okra, Lima Beans and Cucumber Salad. He was in heaven. We hardly spoke during our meal except to tell each other how good the food was. I can't wait to go back!! You have to try this restaurant.  G

Walton's Southern Table

This new restaurant in the Former Ruby Tuesday at 4901 Whitesburg Drive is a down home cooking kind of place. The decor is cheery and the friendly staff makes it a joy. Highlights are the fried okra and fried chicken that both have a magnificent scald on them. I also had the broccoli salad, divine hashbrown casserole and spinach. It was delicious however I would skip the spinach. Not much flavor and seems thawed from frozen. Hubby loved the chicken and massages potatoes. We will for sure be regulars and recommend a trip there for an affordable and delicious southern dinner!

Supper Hero's

This is a great little place off Winchester Road but still in the city limits. It is a family place with a super hero theme. Comic books, action figures and movies on the flat screen entertain while waiting for your grub. The menu offers salads, sandwiches, burgers  & daily specials. We started with fried green tomatoes and a medley of deviled eggs. The tomatoes were awesome and came with a horseradish and a spicy sweet dipping sauce. The eggs were very good. You don't usually have eggs as an appetizer option! I had the Fungus Among Us burger which was delicious and Hubby with Mama had the Meatloaf wrapped in bacon. The flavor was different but great. I can't wait to go back! They have a Facebook page. I recommend checking it out!
